The CHS Boys Soccer team is coming off a week which featured a dramatic 1-0 home win over Taunton High School and a tremendous 1-1 draw at once-beaten Foxboro.
The Taunton game was a bit sloppy overall but the Bulldogs were creating chances all game long- many coming from excellent service on restarts from Jake Verille and Griffin Roach. But the Bulldog were snake-bitten in the box and couldn't manage to test the Taunton netminder. With 2 minutes left in the contest, a Taunton free-kick was well struck and took every bit of goalkeeper skills Abe Garber could muster to keep the ball out of the top corner of the Bulldog net. It was a class save! Shortly after that, Sammy Papakonstantino was taken down inside the Taunton box and Pat Hession calmly buried the Penalty kick, earning the home-side a 1-0 win and improving the team's home record to 3 wins and 1 loss on the season.
The team traveled to 9-1-1 Foxboro (defending Davenport Champions) on Friday and came away with a hard-fought 1-1 draw. The Bulldogs and Warriors struggled to get much going early but by late in the first frame, the visitors seemed to find their stride as a hard-working play by Joey Basile and Paul Corcoran led to a Papakonstantino goal, tying up the game at 1-1 at the half. The Bulldogs created a ton of second half chances but couldn't find the back of the Warrior goal and settled for the 1-1 draw- a strong result for a team who seems to be finding its way.
The Bulldogs look to keep tournament hopes alive as they host Oliver Ames on Tuesday night at 7:00 and travel to Milford at 7:15 Friday night.
